Europe against racism 2024

Network and cooperation project of EU partner cities against racism
Europe_against_racism

Racist structures and everyday racism are a reality in European cities and institutions and are addressed and combated in different ways.

The transnational project ‘Europe against Racism’ is building a network between European administrative organisations and NGOs that provides effective recommendations for dealing with various forms of racism. Local anti-racism work is of central value to cities. In order to strengthen this added value and opportunities for participation across Europe, ‘Europe against racism’ wants to work with the participating administrative units and local NGOs to determine which best practices are suitable for effective, empowering and sustainable work against racism in the municipalities. The project actively involves people who are affected by racism and intends to work with rather than through those affected and to realise the project.

In 2024, the focus will be on further training and professional exchange between the administrations of the partner cities and organisations active in the field.

As a first step, we are inviting interested employees from the administrations of Berlin Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Lichtenberg, Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg with their respective colleagues from Split, Vienna-Margareten, Sofia-Oborishte and possibly other partner cities to a two-day seminar in Berlin.

DATE: 18 and 19 July 2024

The training programme aims not only to provide administrative staff with a sound understanding of racism and anti-Semitism, but also to develop the skills for successful cooperation in a European context. It takes into account the special aspects of intercultural cooperation and specific challenges of international cooperation with European city partners.

In a second step, we are also inviting NGO employees from Berlin and the partner cities mentioned above to a two-day seminar in Berlin.

DATE: 26 and 27 August 2024

The seminar addresses the needs and experiences of NGO representatives in the field of anti-racism work from the partner cities in Berlin, Split, Vienna-Margareten, Sofia-Oborishte and possibly other partner cities and specifically integrates the relevant EU measures. It offers a platform for the in-depth exchange of experiences, the discussion of advanced action strategies and the development of partnerships at a higher level. The targeted networking and co-operation of participants at EU level creates synergies and lays the foundation for future joint projects and initiatives.

In a third step, a transferable series of events will be developed from the experiences and suggestions of the two seminars in a co-creation workshop. The format and timeframe for this module will be determined by the participants themselves in consultation with the project management.

Participation in the workshops is free of charge for the target group. The number of participants is limited to 15, with six places reserved for guests from Berlin's partner cities. Travel, accommodation and catering costs are covered by the project.
