Europas Kriege. Europas Frauen (Europa's wars. Europa's women)

The war in the Western Balkans began some 30 years ago. Hardly any event since World War II has shaken the public as much as the outbreak of war in the former Yugoslavia in 1991. Death, flight, expulsion, sexual violence as a weapon of war were also a frightening reality at that time, especially for women.

For a year now, Ukrainians have been fighting against Russia's full-scale invasion of their country. Ukraine defends the right to self-determination and territorial integrity, and at the same time it defends fundamental values of the European Union. 15 million Ukrainians have since fled Ukraine or been displaced within the country. Many of them are women, many of them have suffered traumatic experiences of violence.

With incredible strength, resilience and creativity, these women have developed new paths for themselves and their families. Civil society actors and structures support the women in their fight for justice and against the forgetting of history.
