The U.S. Embassy and the European Academy Berlin cordially invite you to an engaging discussion on the topic of “The History of U.S.-PRC Relations” featuring esteemed U.S. guest speaker and expert Professor Meredith Oyen from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. This event will take place at the U.S. Embassy Berlin (Pariser Platz 2, 10117) on November 15, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM (Doors open at 4:30 PM).
About Professor Meredith Oyen
Meredith Oyen is an Associate Professor with a Ph.D. from Georgetown University, specializing in U.S. History and U.S. Diplomatic History. Her expertise lies in the history of Sino-American relations, with a keen focus on the role of migrants, transnational networks, and non-governmental organizations in shaping bilateral relations during the 20th century. Professor Oyen's noteworthy contributions to the field include her book, "The Diplomacy of Migration: Transnational Lives and the Making of U.S.-Chinese Relations in the Cold War," published by Cornell University Press in 2015. Her research and scholarship have also been featured in prestigious journals such as Diplomatic History, Journal of Cold War Studies, and Modern Asian Studies. Currently, Professor Oyen is engaged in a project centered on Jewish refugees in WWII Shanghai. She has a rich history of academic accomplishments, including serving as the first Faculty Veterans Fellow at UMBC, and her participation in an NEH summer institute on Veterans Studies.
