A forgotten history? The persecution of Sinti and Roma in the Nazi era
Bismarckallee 46/48
14193 Berlin
Germany
Are you interested in history but tired of reading thick books? Are you interested in graphic novels and would like to join German and Czech young adults in Berlin on a search for historical traces, deal with the Nazi era in city tours and workshops and create your own graphic novel together?
From 15-17 October you can do just that!
During these three days in Berlin you will deal with the fate of the Sinti and Roma who were persecuted under National Socialism. The starting point will be the lives of Otto Rosenberg and Emilie Danielová, portrayed in two graphic novels. In a practical workshop you will also learn how to create sketches for a graphic novel from photos and biographies.
You don't need any prior knowledge about the Nazi persecution of the Roma and Sinti or expertise in drawing comics. We meet to learn something together and make international friends in the process. Participation and meals are free of charge. We will also provide accommodation (double room) for the participants from the Czech Republic and reimburse their travel costs.
If you would like to participate, please fill in the form below and let us know why you wish to take part. Please send the completed form to Julia Aertken, ja@eab-berlin.eu. To participate, you should have a basic knowledge of English and be of age.
The workshop is part of the project "Digital Lines of Life and Death", which is taking place in cooperation with the Landesverband Deutscher Sinti und Roma Berlin-Brandenburg e.V., the Berlin-Marzahn Forced Camp Memorial and the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno and with the kind support of the Federal Foreign Office and the Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" (EVZ) as part of the programme "Young People Remember".
