CLIMACY
Climate change has been an issue for a long time, and yet it is more topical than ever - despite a wide range of efforts across Germany and Europe, the 1.5 degree target is still in the balance. In order to achieve this and to better protect the climate, not only committed actors and activists are needed, but also an overarching understanding of the complexity of the problem. This complexity is most evident in the consequences of climate change, which extend far beyond the environmental aspect and into many different policy areas.
Not every country is equally affected by climate change or faces the same impacts. This is where "CLIMACY" comes in: Organized by the European Academy Berlin and SABUKO, the project addresses the need for climate impact adaptation and brings together 20 civil society actors and climate activists from Georgia and Germany for an intensive exchange of experiences and skills training. The goal is to jointly develop communication and advocacy strategies that enable the work of climate change activists on the ground to be made visible and understood. The actors have the opportunity to connect with each other, learn about best-practices and local approaches, and mutually benefit from their competencies.
The project combines different activities: In May, participants will get to know each other at a digital kick-off workshop, which addresses the challenges of climate impact adaptation in Georgia and Germany. During the first seminar in Tbilisi, participants and experts from Georgian organizations will exchange ideas on climate protection work. The focus will be on peer learning and best case sharing. In addition, the interface to the topic of democracy will be worked on. During the working phase, participants will work individually and in transnational teams to develop an advocacy strategy on a specific climate impact adaptation issue. Two digital networking meetings are offered in parallel, where participants can exchange information on the status of their projects and receive advice. The second seminar in Berlin is dedicated to the exchange of experiences with a focus on the European perspective and gender equality. The results and learnings will be collected on a multilingual blog page.
