How do we deal with climate change? Due to the increasing extreme weather events in recent years and the demonstrations on our streets, this question is pushing itself more and more into our everyday lives. The now noticeable effects of the predictions made years ago are putting pressure on politics and society to act. Despite manifold efforts in Germany and Europe, achieving the 1.5 degree target is still in the balance.

Achieving this and better protecting the climate requires not only committed actors and activists, but also an overarching understanding of the complexity of the issue. How do politics and society in Germany and Georgia deal with weather events such as heat waves with forest fires and heavy precipitation? This trend will intensify in the future. Adapting to climate change helps us to better deal with its consequences, reduce damage and make use of existing opportunities. But what does this adaptation look like in concrete terms?

Our georgian and german experts will discuss against the background of the following guiding questions:

• What challenges do Germany, Georgia and Europe face with regard to climate protection and adaptation to the climate crisis?

• In which areas do both countries cooperate? What can Germany and Georgia learn from each other?

• What role do civil society, politics and business play in climate protection in Germany and Georgia?

We invite experts and the audience to discuss these questions from various perspectives.

Following the main discussion, you will have the opportunity to interact with project participants from both Georgia and Germany. The participants have delved into various challenges of climate impact adaptation in their respective countries. Drawing on their research, they have developed advocacy strategies targeted at specific climate adaptation issues.

The event is part of the project CLIMACY Accelerating Advocacy for Climate Change Adaptation and is open to all interested parties.
