Climate and Food Security in Times of Global Crises
On May 15, 2023, the Embassy of Slovenia in Berlin hosted panel discussions at the European Academy Berlin on climate and food security. Representatives from Slovenia and Germany, diplomatic corps, international organizations, and research institutions participated as moderators and panelists. The discussions focused on the impact of the climate crisis on international peace and security, as well as food crises due to climate change.
Ambassador Dr. Ana Polak Petrič highlighted Slovenia's activities in climate and water diplomacy, emphasizing the importance of bees for food security. The panel discussions, moderated by experts, covered climate security and its global implications, as well as the effects of climate change on food security worldwide. The participants emphasized the need for climate financing and the involvement of local communities, women, and girls in addressing these challenges.
Slovenia's Special Envoy for Climate Diplomacy, Dr. Smiljana Knez, and other experts affirmed Slovenia's commitment to these issues. They discussed Slovenia's aspirations to prioritize climate change and its impact on peace and security if elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2024-25.
